Review of ISTE-Teaching Techniques-21st Century Teaching tools

Teachers must develop into technology genius’s to keep up with their students and with teachers around the world. Nowadays it is less about staying ahead and more about moving forward as members of a fast changing society. Effective teachers model and apply the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS•S) as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students, colleagues, and the community. All teachers should understand digital-age teaching; it is a must to be able to demonstrate an image of technological understanding through usage in the classroom—through modeling and developing the technology skills in the classroom. These are the traits of the next generation of teachers.

Teaching techniques addresses integrating technology into our larger learning goals, not the other way around. Kids need to realize that technology is just another tool for learning and communication, just like a book or a pencil. I am eager to make some power points that can run while I am walking around the classroom addressing individual students needs. Or making a slide show demonstrating how to do a project for, math, science experiments and even art.

Teachers are finding innovative ways to use information technology tools to help engage their students and families. Weekly blogs can replace Friday Folders or at least notify parents of documents coming home. Classroom technologies include the Promethean boards; ELMO document cameras, Internet services and tools and educational resources. Engaging students to learn, with virtual experiences these 21st century tools, make possible. Teachers have the ability to expand the boundaries of helping to build a foundation for the success of the students and their communities. It has never been an easy task but now we have tools that can facilitate learning with the stroke of a key.
